A Bichon Took Every Sock He Could Carry and Smiled About It
Blue, gray, and pink socks hang from the white Bichon's mouth like a colorful beard, and above them his dark eyes sparkle with a tiny, guilty smile. His white curls are fluffy as a cloud, and he stands on the wooden floor as if he has just been caught halfway through a very important delivery. A laundry basket spills out behind him on the sofa, which explains where the loot came from.
Many dogs love to steal socks, because they smell strongly of their favorite person, and carrying one around can feel comforting. Bichons are cheerful, affectionate dogs who often want to be close to you, even when you are not home. The problem is that swallowed socks can cause a dangerous blockage, so it is wise to keep laundry up high or in a closed hamper. If a dog eats a sock, call your vet rather than waiting. Trading a sock for a treat teaches a dog that giving up the prize is worth it.
We will call him Frosty. He seems proud of the haul, and he has decided that the best plan is to keep smiling. Maybe he is hoping somebody will chase him in a game, which is half the fun of being a sock thief. The laundry, meanwhile, will have to be recounted, and a few pairs will remain missing for the foreseeable future.
