A Rescue Mutt Has Whipped Cream on Her Nose and a Pie Nearby
A blob of whipped cream sits right on the tip of the mutt's black nose, and above it two warm brown eyes look up with a gentle, hopeful expression. Her tan and white fur is soft and a bit scruffy, and one ear flops down while the other stands halfway up. Just past her shoulder, a golden pie sits on a battered wooden table with a big slice missing, next to a fork and some scattered crumbs.
Mixed-breed rescue dogs often have a charming blend of traits, and many are known for being thoughtful, loyal, and quick to learn what a household expects. They can be just as clever about food as any purebred, and they may have a history of learning to find meals where they can. Pie is not a good snack for dogs, because sugar, butter, and spices can upset their stomach, and some fillings, like raisins or chocolate, are dangerous. If your dog sneaks a bite, talk to your vet, and keep desserts well back from the table's edge.
We will call her Maggie. She seems to have no idea that the cream on her nose is a signed confession. Her eyes stay calm and kind, the way dogs look when they believe love can settle any question. The pie is mostly saved, the dessert fork is still clean, and the nose cream is, honestly, the cutest part of the whole story.
