The Laundry Was Folded. The German Shepherd Had Thoughts About That.
The clean laundry was folded an hour ago, or at least that was the plan. Now a sleek black German Shepherd named Shadow is sitting upright in the wicker basket like a king on a very soft throne, ears high, gaze fixed on something far across the room. Towels, T-shirts and socks are scattered in every direction, and a second basket in the background has been tipped too. Not one glance goes toward the camera. That is the whole strategy.
German Shepherds are famously clever and tuned in to their people, which is exactly why this look is so convincing. They were bred to work, so a bored Shepherd will invent a job, and sorting through warm laundry can feel like a very important one. Dogs also love fabric that smells strongly of their family, and a pile of fresh clothes is basically a scent library. Giving a smart breed daily exercise, puzzle toys and a few training games usually cuts down on this kind of redecorating.
If your own dog likes to nest in the wash, a spare blanket in a quiet corner can satisfy the urge. Keep an eye out for socks, since dogs that carry off small cloth items can swallow them, and talk to your vet if that ever happens.
For now, Shadow holds the pose, calm and dignified, as if the avalanche of clothes had absolutely nothing to do with him. The basket is comfortable, and he has no plans to move.
