A Shih Tzu Climbed Into the Cereal Box. Getting Out Was Another Matter.

Only his head and front paws show above the rim of an empty cereal box, but a brindle Shih Tzu manages to look fully in charge. His dark, round eyes glance sideways, his flat little face is framed by soft whiskers, and his small body is plainly squeezed into a space that was made for something else. Behind him, a blanket is draped over a couch and a table lamp casts a gentle glow, so the whole scene feels like a very cozy mistake.

Many dogs, and cats too, love boxes. A snug space makes them feel safe, and the walls give a sense of being hidden while keeping an eye on everything. Shih Tzus were bred as companions, and they are happiest close to their people, so a box in the living room may simply be the nearest hiding spot. Boxes are generally safe for a short time, but check that there are no staples, tape, or sharp edges, and make sure your dog can easily get out. Shih Tzus have short noses, so keep them out of hot places and stop play if they begin breathing heavily.

He may be stuck, or he may simply be committed. Either way, he looks like he plans to stay for a while, and nobody has the heart to rush him. The cereal, we assume, is long gone.
