The Scottish Fold's Shiny Whiskers Tell the Whole Butter Story
Tiny dabs of butter cling to the whiskers of this silver tabby Scottish Fold, and beside her sits a butter dish that has been licked down to the last smear. Her ears are folded flat against her round head, her green eyes are solemn and a few crumbs are scattered on the wooden table. Sunlight falls across her face and the plates in the background.
Scottish Folds are known for their unique ears, owl-like faces and sweet, affectionate natures. They tend to be gentle and quiet, though they can be playful too. Butter has a lovely smell and a rich taste, and a cat does not need much encouragement to take a lick, especially if the dish is on a low table.
Butter is not poisonous to cats, but it is very rich and fatty, and eating a lot of it can upset their stomachs. Regularly eating high-fat foods can also lead to weight problems or other trouble. Cats are best fed a balanced cat diet, and it is wise to keep butter covered. If a cat eats a lot, or seems unwell afterward, call your vet.
She tries to keep a serious face, but those whiskers tell the story. A gentle wipe with a damp cloth will fix it, and then maybe she will make a better plan next time. For now, she sits with great dignity, shiny whiskers and all.
