A White Cat Keeps Her Eyes Away From the Open Peanut Butter Jar

There is no mistaking this one: a smear of peanut butter coats the nose and chin of the fluffy white cat, and an open jar sits right next to her with a spoon-shaped scoop taken out of the top. She looks off to one side with green eyes, ears relaxed and whiskers a little sticky, as if she has just thought of something far more interesting than the jar.

Peanut butter has a strong smell and a thick, sticky texture that many pets find fascinating. Cats are not usually as crazy about it as dogs are, but they may be intrigued by the scent and the unusual feel on their tongues. A small taste is usually not a problem, but it is not a great snack for cats. It is high in fat and salt, and some brands contain a sweetener called xylitol, which is very dangerous to pets. Always check the label before letting any animal near it. If you think your cat has eaten a product with xylitol, call your vet or an emergency clinic right away.

The white cat is not worried about any of that. She is licking her lips with an air of mild satisfaction and trying to act as though the jar opened itself. She has a good chance of getting away with it, if only she could do something about the nose.
