A Bernese Mountain Dog Has Climbed Inside the Dishwasher
A big, fluffy Bernese Mountain Dog is sitting inside the open dishwasher as if it were the most natural place in the world. His black, white, and rust coat fills the space between the racks, his head tilts upward, and his brown eyes are soft and a little hopeful.
The kitchen around him is bustling, with wooden cabinets, a counter covered with a blue towel, a roll of paper towels, wooden spoons, a succulent, and some colorful toy blocks. Sunlight spills through the window and across the tile floor.
Bernese Mountain Dogs are large, gentle dogs from the Swiss Alps who were bred to pull carts and help on farms. They are known for being friendly, calm, and devoted to their families. Dishwashers hold leftover food smells that are very interesting to dogs, but they also contain sharp knives, detergent, and hard surfaces, so it is best to keep the door closed when not in use. Never let a dog lick detergent, and call your vet if he does. Berners have thick coats that can overheat, so provide cool places to rest, and give him a comfortable bed in the kitchen if he likes to be close to you.
He looks perfectly content, a big gentle presence in a small space. Nobody has the heart to ask him to move.
