Two Sleepy Puppies Claimed Grandma's Old Quilt for the Afternoon
A well-loved patchwork quilt has been spread out in the yard, and two tricolor puppies have taken it over. They lie head to head, black ears draped over the squares of faded florals and pink gingham, their tan eyebrow dots catching the light. Behind them a stack of plant pots, a watering can, and a pair of boots hint that a gardener has paused for a break.
A soft quilt gives puppies a comfortable surface, and a patch of mild afternoon sun can be a lovely place for a nap. It is worth remembering, though, that puppies get hot and cold faster than adults, so make sure there is shade and fresh water nearby, and bring them inside if the air turns chilly or the sun gets strong.
Quilts and blankets invite chewing, especially from teething pups. Loose threads and stuffing can be swallowed, so check the fabric for fraying and keep a few safe chew toys handy. If a puppy has a habit of shredding bedding, a tougher dog bed may be better, and your vet can suggest options.
Cavaliers tend to be agreeable napping partners. Whether they are nestled with a littermate, a person, or another pet, they usually settle happily into whatever warm spot is on offer. These two have picked the softest patch in the garden and are making the most of it.
