Three Saint Bernard Puppies Teamed Up to Chew One Slipper
Three red and white Saint Bernard puppies have found one tan slipper and are chewing it together. One has the toe in its mouth, another has a paw on the heel and the third is leaning in to take a turn. The floor is wooden, a blue rug lies at the bottom of the frame and a houseplant and a sofa fill the room behind them.
Slippers are favorite chew items for puppies, because they smell like their owners and feel good on sore gums. A giant breed puppy can destroy a slipper very quickly, so it is a good idea to keep shoes out of reach. Offer safe chew toys, and trade the slipper for a toy instead of scolding. If a puppy swallows part of a shoe, call your vet right away.
Teething is a normal stage for puppies, and Saint Bernards can be enthusiastic chewers. Frozen chew toys can help soothe sore gums, though ask your vet what is suitable for your dog. Plenty of exercise and mental stimulation also reduce boredom chewing.
For now, the slipper is the center of the world. Three pups are working on it, and it looks like a team effort. Every so often one lets go to take a breath, then dives back in, while the slipper slowly loses its shape and its dignity along with it.
