Two Saint Bernard Puppies Sat in an Old Crate and Watched the Room
Two red and white Saint Bernard puppies are sitting in a weathered wooden crate, their big white paws tucked against the slats. One stares forward with a serious expression, while the other turns to look at something at the side. Behind them, a plant, a coat on a hook and a pair of slippers show that this is a corner of a busy home.
Old wooden crates are rustic and charming, but they are not ideal for a puppy to be in for long. They can splinter, and nails or rough edges can hurt. For everyday use, a sturdy dog crate sized for the puppy and lined with a soft pad is a better choice. Because Saint Bernards grow so large, crate size will need to change as the puppy grows.
Crate training can help with housebreaking and give a puppy a safe retreat. Introduce the crate gradually with treats and praise, and never use it as punishment. Short, positive sessions help a puppy associate the crate with comfort.
These two look well behaved and a bit curious. The crate is theirs for now, and they seem happy to sit and watch what comes next. Their big paws will not fit for much longer, but at this very moment the crate seems to be exactly the right size, and nobody wants to get out.
