The Weimaraner Puppies Decided the Flower Pot Belonged to Them Now

The flower pot was meant for a plant, but two silver-gray puppies have claimed it for themselves. They sit pressed side by side in the dark soil, one gazing curiously toward us and the other turned slightly away with a calm, thoughtful look. Their soft ears hang down along their cheeks, and bits of moss are stuck to their paws. Behind them is a living room full of everyday clutter, with a wooden table, a stuffed toy and a cardboard box on the floor.

Puppies love cozy, snug spots, and pots, boxes and baskets feel safe to them. That instinct goes back to their den-dwelling ancestors. It is worth remembering, though, that potting soil, fertilizer and some houseplants can upset a dog's stomach or be harmful if eaten, so keep puppies away from real planters and plants you are unsure about. If a puppy does swallow something unusual, call your vet. Giving them a snug bed or a cardboard box to explore is a safer way to satisfy that urge to squeeze into small places.

The plant will probably need to find a new home. These two tenants look very settled.

It is a tight squeeze, but squeezes are what puppies do best. Somewhere under all that soft gray fur are four paws that will grow into very long legs, and one day this pot will not fit even one of them.
