A Shiba Inu and a Piglet Said Their First Hello on the Lawn
On a quiet patch of lawn, a cream Shiba Inu sits with her ears upright and her gaze lowered toward a small pink piglet who stands only inches away. Their noses are nearly touching, and both are perfectly still, as if the world has paused for the introduction. A garden with pots, a fence, and a few tools lies behind them. The grass is bright, the light is gentle, and it is clearly a meeting that matters. One tiny hoof has lifted off the grass, as if she cannot decide whether to step forward or back.
Shiba Inus are known for being clean, independent, and a little aloof, so a polite sniff is often the most they will offer on a first meeting. Introductions work best when they are slow and calm, with the dog on a leash and the new animal given space to retreat. Let both animals sniff and then take a break, and reward calm behavior with a treat. Shibas have strong instincts, so supervision is important for a long time, and your vet or a trainer can offer advice on introducing pets of different species.
Penny seems curious rather than afraid, and the Shiba seems politely interested. The first hello is a delicate thing. If this one goes well, it may be the start of a good friendship. Patience is the best gift either of them can give.
