The Bulldog Dozed Off in the Hay, and Someone Small Curled Up Beside Him
The straw is deep and golden, and the Bulldog has claimed it. A big white Bulldog with soft folded ears and wrinkles around his muzzle is sound asleep on his side, one heavy paw stretched out, and curled right up against him is a small brown bunny with her ears laid flat. A shed door, some shoes and a bit of bare floor appear above the hay, but the corner belongs entirely to the sleepers.
Bulldogs are calm, easygoing dogs who are famous for loving a good nap. They are sturdy and affectionate, but their wrinkles and flat faces need some care. Clean the facial folds regularly to avoid irritation, and keep exercise gentle and short in warm weather because they overheat easily.
Straw can be a good bedding choice for outdoor animals, since it stays drier and warmer than hay. Hay is better kept as food for rabbits, who need lots of fresh grass hay to keep their teeth and digestion healthy. If you offer straw for naps, check that it is clean and free of mold, and keep a close watch if pets like to nibble on it.
A deep nap, a warm friend and a quiet barn are all anyone needs. Pip has found the safest bed she could imagine. The hay rustles softly with every slow, sleepy breath.
