A Chocolate Poodle Shared Her Porch Step With a Surprising Neighbor
Two neighbors have taken a seat on the old porch steps. A chocolate-brown Poodle, her coat clipped in neat, tight curls, sits up with a polite, dignified expression, and right next to her a small brown bunny perches with her ears raised and her eyes bright. Tufts of grass, fallen leaves and a few plants sit around the steps, with a wooden fence glowing in the afternoon sun.
Poodles are among the smartest dog breeds and are often very trainable. They are active, elegant dogs who enjoy learning tricks and being near their families. Their curly coats do not shed much, but they need regular professional grooming to avoid mats. A poodle that has had plenty of exercise and mental play tends to be a calm companion.
Because rabbits are prey animals, they tend to be wary around dogs, and a calm, trained dog is a big help. A bunny that sits next to a dog without bolting is showing real trust, and that trust is built over time. When introducing the two, keep sessions short, reward calm behavior and always let the rabbit set the pace.
The pair look like they are discussing the weather, and nobody is in a hurry. Pip looks as comfortable on the step as the Poodle does. It is a very civilized way to spend an afternoon.
