A Gray Ragdoll Kitten Falls Asleep Against the Scarecrow's Boot
A pale gray and cream kitten has curled up on the old porch boards, tucked right against a scarecrow's straw-stuffed leg. His eyes are closed, his nose rests on his paw and his fluffy tail wraps around him. The scarecrow beside him wears a plaid shirt, a floppy hat and a stitched smile, and the porch rail, a pumpkin and scattered autumn leaves complete the quiet morning scene.
This looks like a blue point Ragdoll kitten, a breed known for a soft, silky coat and a gentle, laid-back temperament. They are often relaxed and may go limp when picked up, which is where the name comes from, though they should still be held with support. Kittens of this breed can sleep a great deal while growing, and a calm nap spot is good for them.
Straw and scarecrow stuffing are not good for cats to eat, and loose bits can get stuck in a kitten's mouth or stomach. It is better to place a blanket or a soft bed for a nap spot than to let a kitten nest in decorations. If your kitten likes napping outside, make sure the area is enclosed and that she is protected from cold, rain and wandering animals.
We will call him Smudge. He seems to think the scarecrow is the best companion a napping kitten could have, since he never talks and never moves. The morning is peaceful, the porch is warm and the whole scene is the cozy side of autumn.
