A Tiny Dinosaur Went Exploring on the Wet Sidewalk
The green hood has spikes and a long tail, and the kitten inside is about the size of a teacup. A brown tabby American Shorthair kitten sits on the damp sidewalk looking off to the side, with soft stripes on her face and tiny pink-whiskered nose. Fallen leaves dot the pavement, a jack-o'-lantern glows on a step in the background, and dried shrubs and a doorway wait behind. The whole street looks gray and quiet, and the little dinosaur looks ready to explore it.
American Shorthairs are sturdy, easygoing cats known for being good family pets, and as kittens they are playful and bold. Dressing a kitten is a delicate business. Kittens have very little body fat and can chill quickly on cold or damp ground, so keep outdoor time short and bring her inside as soon as she shivers. Only use outfits that are loose, light, and easy to remove, and never leave a costumed kitten unsupervised. Also keep her away from street traffic, and if you go out, use a carrier or secure harness. Your vet can tell you when she is old enough for outings.
We could call her Dina, short for dinosaur. She doesn't roar, but she does give the sidewalk a thoughtful look. This is a very small, very soft dinosaur, and the world is her new territory.
