A Husky Looks Away From the Potting Soil Spill on the Patio

AI imagesiberian huskypotting soilpatio

A torn bag of potting soil lies on its side on the patio, and dark soil has spilled across the stones. A red and white Siberian Husky stands over it, head turned to the side and pale eyes looking into the distance. Her thick coat has a few specks of dirt on it, and her big white paws are planted firmly on the ground. A wooden fence and a patio chair sit behind her.

Siberian Huskies are energetic, athletic dogs bred to pull sleds across long distances. They are famous for their independent streak, their striking eyes and their love of digging. A Husky can dig a hole faster than most people can find the shovel, and a pile of loose soil is practically an invitation.

Potting soil can contain fertilizers, bark and other materials that are not good for dogs to eat, and a dog who swallows a lot can have an upset stomach. Keep gardening supplies in a shed or closed cabinet. Huskies need plenty of exercise and a designated digging spot, like a sandbox, to keep them busy. If your dog has eaten soil or fertilizer, call your vet.

The Husky does not seem to be in a hurry. She looks off into the middle distance with the dignity of a dog who has done nothing at all. If a bag of soil happened to end up in pieces, that is simply the will of the universe.
